A European slver coin dating to eleveth century was discovered in Native America archaelogical site in United States. Many archeological beleive that coin has been originally brought to United States. Other archaelogical believe that the coin is a fake coin that was placed at the site recently. The reading passage indicates some reasons that the coin is fake. The lecturer, nonetheless, throws doubt on all ideas presented in the reading passage and refute them all.
First, the author argues that the coin came from very long distances and the site is very far from other sites documenting Norse presence in North America. Conversely, the lecturer claims that many objects were found in archaelogical site and there are reasons that the coin traveled great distance to this site.
Furthermore, the reading passage highlights that no other coins have been found at the Canadian sites that were inhabited by the Norse. The speaker, on the contary, thinks that it doesn't neccessairly prove anything. The lecturer claims that Norse didn't stay there for a long time and they packed up other things.
Finally, the reading passage brings up the idea that silver coin was useless in North America and they didn't recognize silver coins as a money. In contrast, the professor thinks that the Native Americans found this silver coin very attractive and they might have used them for trading and creating ornamental things in the future.
