TPO-47 - Integrated Writing Task Pterosaurs were an ancient group of winged reptiles that lived alongside the dinosaurs. Many pterosaurs were very large, some as large as a giraffe and with a wingspan of over 12 meters. Paleontologists have long wondered

The reading passage and lecture are about Pterosaurs, a kind of ancient reptiles. These animals were very huge and sometimes as large as giraffe. There are many experiments were done on Pterosaurs' fossils that show they were able to flight but according to the passage, many reasons reject this ability for Pterosaurs. On the other hand, the lecturer gives several reasons to conflict with passage.

First, based on passage because modern reptiles are kind of cold-blooded animal so it would be possible that Pterosaurs were cold-blooded too. So if these animals were cold-blooded it couldn't feasible they can produce a lot of energy to flight, but the lecturer says due to some fossils were found recently, Pterosaurs had a fast metabolism and they were kind of warm-blooded animals. Therefore, they were capable to generate enough energy to flight.

Second, the passage says these animals were so heavy and it was not possible they could flight but the lecturer says Pterosaurs' bones were not solid and didn't have high weight so they could flap their wings fast.

Third, according to the passage this animals couldn't use their legs to produce initial energy for flight by jumping because of weak muscles but the lecturer says the mechanism of taking off ground for birds and this type of reptile are really different because birds have just 2 legs and they should use them to run or jump to gain speed for flight so they really need powerful muscles but Pterosaurs despite they had small and weak back leg muscles, they had got 4 legs so preparing for flight could be possible for them.
