TPO 54 Integrated Writing Task

Both the reading and the listening discuss serious probem of The Salten Sea, inland lake, in California. The salinity we know as the salt level of the lake water has been constantly increasing because of quick evaporation than it's the usual rate. Therefore, scientists and local residents are afraid of the probability that the lake will be a cause of habitat fish and bird extinction. The reading author suggests that three solutions to decrease the salinity of the lake, but the lecturer does deny its.
The reading, firstly, indicates that separation of salt from the lake's water by some significant desalination facilities. Whereas, the professor adds that desalination facility evaporates haphazardous chemical into the air. Local people who live near the lake will breathe the toxicated air and this will be harmful residents.
Furthermore, the author claims that connecting lake with the Pacific ocean water because ocean water has less salty than the lake, hence, lake water salination will decrease. The listening supports the idea in one way, however, she gives another way to think that constructing a pipeline from the Pacific Ocean to the lake is too expensive to residents.
Another point of the reading is to divide the lake by its salty level and to allow the lake staying with the main section with the fresh water. Nevertheless, the listening supports that cause of the natural disaster, the earthquake, might break the walls. It will become financially impossible to build that walls again and again.
