TPO 54. The Salton Sea in California is actually a salty inland lake. The level of salt in the lake's water—what scientists call its salinity—has been increasing steadily for years because the lake's water is evaporating faster than it is being repla

The reading passage and lecture are both about how to save lake from dead zone which is because of the salinity. Whereas the author of the reading states that this three methods are efficient , the lecture suggests that this suggestions are unnecessary. The lecturer casts doubts on the main points made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, direct removal from the lake's water in special desalination facilities. To put it more simply, while water evaporate, salt and other materials dissolved. However, the lecturer disputes this point. she says that this method may bring serious damage for human's health. Furthermore, she mentions that if some kind of toxic materials went into the air and people would breath can destroy people's health.
Secondly, the reading states that bringing ocean water which is less salty into the lake is another option for diminish the salinity. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. She argues that Pacific Ocean which is far as a hundred kilometer require a large amount of money to build construction and government can not afford its price.
Finally, the reading claims constructing walls which is divided several parts control the lake's salinity is another option. On the other hand, the lecturer believe that this kind of building would be easy to collapse when earthquake happen.
In conclusion, although the reading and the lecture are both about several categories which is protect lake from salinity, the three main points made in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecture.
