TPO No.6
Hails damage the farming products in the USA, and therefore a method called cloud seeding is used to reduce the hail and its damges. The author of the reading provides three reasons to support this method, however the professor rejects them one by one.
First of all, the writer points out some experiments done in a labratory show the effectiveness of this method. In fact, scientists have added silver iodide into the vapor and found that the snow were forming instead of hails. However, the professor rejects this reason bystating that this experiment may not be effective in the real condition. Actually, any kind of precipitation may shape in the cloud ouside of the labratory.
Secondly, the passage suggest that in Asia some coutries used this method in their cities. The main purpose of them was to control rain which was successful. On contrary, the lecturer rebuts this reason too. He asserts that these result cannot be repeated in the USA farms because cities are filled with air pollution which is utilitarian in foriming water drops. In fact, pollution particeles are favorable for vapor in clouds to prduce dropes around them. However, such a condition is not presented in farmlands.
Fianlly, the writer states that some local studies demonstrate the positive influence of this method. For example, one studied evaluted the damages after the using of this methodin a particular area and result were convincing. On theother hand, the professor does not advocate this reason. He mentions that, this study were done in the neabring of the east and north area of whrer the method were used. Thus, the results are not reliable, simple because they might be the cosequences of natural variation in whether and not of this method.
