WICHITA, Kan., March 27, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pulse Systems, Inc., an industry-leading provider of Electronic Health Record (EHR), Practice Management and Revenue Cycle Management solutions, is pleased to announce it has successfully tested ICD-10 claims with multiple leading clearinghouses.

During the course of the past 30 days, Pulse successfully tested ICD-10 claims with Cahaba, CEDI -- National Government Services, Emdeon, First Coast Service Options, National Government Services, Novitas, Palmetto GBA, and Wisconsin Physician Service Insurance Corporation. In the coming weeks, Pulse will test with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, and others.

Pulse participated in the CMS front-end ICD-10 code set testing, which took place from March 3 to March 7, 2014. This testing reviewed the electronic claim files to ensure that each 837 claim file was structured correctly for the new ICD-10 loops and segments. The testing process analyzed the ability of the software to generate a claim file with ICD-10 codes placed correctly in ANSI 5010 format. Pulse will also participate in CMS' end-to-end ICD-10 code set testing, which includes claim adjudication. This CMS ICD-10 testing is scheduled to take place in July 2014.

ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition) is a medical classification list that will affect documentation and coding for everyone covered by the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA). While there are many similarities between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM, most prominent among the differences is ICD-10's overall greater specificity, which requires more detail in clinical documentation to support code selection. There are currently 14,000 ICD-9 codes, whereas there are approximately 69,000 ICD-10 codes.

Pulse's Practice Management Solution, PulsePro, and Pulse's 2014 Certified Complete EHR, version 4.2, is a solution platform to help physician practices document and attest for Meaningful Use Stage 1 and 2, while migrating from ICD-9 to ICD-10. Pulse's ICD-10 infrastructure is in place with the Pulse Knowledge Engine, and the company anticipates that all systems will be compliant the quarter prior to CMS' published implementation deadline, which is October 1, 2014.

"The team at Pulse has worked diligently, and continues to do so, to ensure that physician practices are prepared and experience the smoothest possible transition to ICD-10," said Chris Gregg, Chief Technology Officer for Pulse Systems. "By supporting providers through this migration, educating them on the new documentation and coding requirements, and giving them better data, we will meet our goal of enabling our clients to provide better patient care."

Pulse offers a number of educational tools to support clients in their transition to ICD-10, including abundant information on Pulse's website, webinars, the Pulse Academy for Client Education (PACE), email updates, personal consultations and other services.
