On #GivingTuesday December 2, 2014, Vanguard University will join businesses, families, community centers, charities, and students around the globe for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. On this day gifts to Vanguard University will support the Through These Doors campaign for renovation and expansion of the university’s Scott Academic Center – and thanks to a generous donor, all donations will be matched dollar for dollar.
The Scott Academic Center, which broke ground on new renovations and upgrades in October, is the hub of student services, including admissions, financial aid, accounting, and registrar offices on Vanguard’s Costa Mesa campus. The innovative enhancements being made to the building include ten new classrooms, a new café, expanded core programs, a complete exterior facelift, and a tower element to give the building landmark significance.
“Giving Tuesday is a wonderful way for our Vanguard community to show how much they care about our students,” says Justin McIntee, associate vice president for development and campaign management. “It wasn’t that long ago that philanthropy was largely a private affair, but that’s all changed with social media. We are so grateful for the many ways that our supporters bless VU students with their generosity, and hope that our alumni and friends will join in this global movement on December 2nd.”
Dollars received on #GivingTuesday will move Vanguard in the direction of reaching the $7 million goal, of which the university is less than $150,000 away from. Gifts of $100 or more will be recognized on a special donor wall display inside of the new Scott Academic Center – a way for donors to leave their mark in a tangible way.
#GivingTuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. Together, with a team of influencers and founding partners, a global movement was launched that has engaged over 10,000 organizations worldwide.
