The table below shows the consumer durables (telephone, refrigerator, etc.) owned in
Britain from 1972 to 1983.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.
The table illustrates the percentage of the households that owned different types of durables from 1972 to 1983 in Britain. The overall trend shows a gradual increase in this percentage, however few durables were not available in the beginning years.
According to the table, the percentage of the households with television increased from 93 to 98 % in the subsequent years, which was the highest percentage. Percentage of households with refrigerator was on second that jumped from 73 to 94 %. Similarly percentage of washing machines increased from 66 to 80 %, telephone from 42 to 77 % and central heating from 38 to 64 % respectively. The percentage of households with vacuum cleaner increased from 87 to 95 % till 1982 and then it became unavailable. Moreover, the graph depicts that video was not available till 1982 after which, there were only 18% of the households with video. Finally, least percentage of the household owned dishwasher, which was unavailable till 1976 and then increased from 3 to 5 % in the remaining years.
