A glance at the diagram illustrates how geothermal energy is generated. Overall, there are five distinct stages in the production process, starting with pumping down cold water and ending with producing electricity via a turbine generator.
At the first stage of the process, cold water travels to a 4.5km long pipe into the injection well. The water then goes through the geothermal zone, where a collection of hot rocks transfers heat to water temperature.
When the water is increased to a certain level – it is time for the second stage of the producing geothermal electricity. At this stage, the production well pumps up hot water from the geothermal zone to a condenser, where the boiling process takes place. The result is warm steam for rotating the turbine. When the turbine is activated, the generator is also powered; thus producing electricity. The electricity is then distributed to power different purposes via electricity grids.
