The given line graph provides information on water use worldwide by three sectors: agriculture, industry, and domestic, throughout a century between 1900 and 2000. Also, the table compares water consumption in Brazil and DR Congo.
As can be seen, great proportion of water was used in agriculture. This figure rose steadily throughout the period from 500 cubic kilometers in 1900 to 3000 cubic kilometers; nevertheless, it slightly fluctuated between 1960s and 1990s. Water utilization in industry and domestic sectors remained the same at the level of 100 cubic kilometers for a half century between 1900 and 1950; however, water utilization in industry sector increased significantly to over 1000 cubic kilometers at the end of the period. In contrast, there was a minor increase in domestic sector to nearly 400 cubic kilometers in 2000.
With regard to water consumption comparison in Brazil and DR Congo, there is a substantial difference between the countries. Brazil, for instance, is a home for 176 million people, whereas, this figure is substantially less in DR Congo at 5.2 million individuals. There is also a huge difference in agriculture sector in the countries; Brazil possesses 26500 square kilometers of irrigated land compared to only 100 square kilometers in DR Congo. There are dramatic differences between the countries; therefore, there is an immense difference in water consumption. 359 cubic meters of water is used per person in Brazil, while this is 8 cubic meters in DR Congo.
