The chart illustrates the percentage of elder people in the population of Japan, Sweden and Usa from 1940 to 2040. Overall, it can be seen clearly that the population of the three countries are becoming older towards 2040, with Japan making the most notably change.

In 1940, Japan had the least elder people among the three with only 5% of the population aged 65 and over. Sweden stood at second as the population aged 65 and over accounted for around 7%. Meanwhile, 9% of population in USA was 65 years old and over, placing it in the first place.

2040 will see a huge spike in the number of elder people in Japan, as over 25% of the population aged 65 and over. There will also be a gradual rise in the demographic of Sweden and USA, with the percentage of elderly will stand at 25% and 23% respecctively.
