The line graph demonstrates employment rates in three sectors of British economy from the year 2000 to 2010.

It can be seen that in this timeframe the employment structure in the United Kingdom experienced a significant change. For instance, from the year 2000 to 2003, the most significant employer of the nation was private sector, where 47 per cent of the entire national workforce did their jobs in the year 2000. However, private sector’s role started to diminish and in 2003 public sector employed the same number of people as enterprises not owned by the government. Later, the share of private sector on labour market continued to decline and in 2008 self-employed people comprised 28 per cent of British workforce and outstripped the bulk of private businesses, which at that moment stood at 26 per cent.

In 2010, public sector was still the biggest employer in the nation, as more than 50 per cent of labor force was involved in this sector, while the percentage of self-employed and employees at private enterprises stood at 30 and 20 per cent respectively.
