The given pie chart and table illustrate the proportion of the causes of degraded farmland and the effects of these causes in three different regions by comparing the precentages of land becoming degraded in North America, Europe and that in Oceania in 1990.
As can be seen in the pie charts, animal over-grazing, indiscriminate logging and over-cultivation are the main causes of global farmland degradation, accounting for 35%, 30% and 28%, respectively. Other causes, while, constituted 7% collectively.
According to the shown table, during 1990s, Europe is the region, having the most percentages of degraded land in three regions, taking up 23%, while there is a small difference between that of North America and Oceania, representing 5% and 13%, successively. Moreover, 9.8% land in Europe is degraded by tree clearance, while the impact of this cause in North Ameria and Oceania is minimal, with only 0.2% and 1.7% respectively. Oceania is the region where 0% land is affected by over-cultivation, whereas 7.7% land in Europe and 3.3% North America’s farmland is degraded by this cause. However, farmland in Oceania is degraded seriously by over-grazing (11.3%), compared with only 5.5% that in Europe and 1.5% that in North America.
