Dear Ms. Rajni,
Hope everything is well at your end. The high schoolers from the 2002 batch from the XYZ School had an informal reunion over Facebook yesterday and one of the classmates, named Neha Misha, mentioned your retirement. If I am right, I think she works in the same school as an elementary teacher. After hearing this news, I could not control myself but to acknowledge your efforts as an elementary teacher that shaped the lives of so many of us over the last twenty-five years.
If I would be honest, I was shocked to hear this news. It seems like just yesterday when a nervous student (of course ME) entered the Kindergarten classroom in 1993 and how you reached out to comfort me. You were the first person, after my mother, who realized how much I lacked the confidence of being around other people and gradually worked with me to develop my skills.
Your diligent and persistent efforts shaped not only the academic career of an average student but also helped on developing inter-personal and intrapersonal skills. Being around a passionate and considerate teacher like you motivate me to pursue the same profession in my life. I am working on finishing my graduate program in Mathematics Education in the United States and will be soon working as a teacher-educator. I still remember your class norm chart - be a patient listener, acknowledge others' opinions, respectfully critique, and learn from mistakes. These ideas guided my way not only through my school-days but also showed me a path as I progressed towards my journey as a future educator. I realized that the great teaching skills, that I learned from you, can never be outdated as these carry the crux of developing a healthy teaching-learning environment.
Last but not the least, I really appreciate that I get to know you in my life. I know the teacher inside you will never be retired and you will continue this journey of teaching others in your coming life. Good luck with everything.
Best,
Appy
