Additionally, the lecturer mentions ducks as an example of animals which use stars to naviagate, but in fact their brain is not complex.
Secondly, the author states that animals use landmarks to maintain their movement in a straight direction. However, humpback whales travel in open ocean and they do not have any landmarks to rely on. For this reason, they could use an external signs such as stars to help them. The lecturer refutes this point by saying that humpback whales have send an object or use somekind of force that could be emitted outside the ocean and bring them information that would help them to navigate. He says that humpback whales have a substance in their brains called biomagnitide, which could sense the Earth's magnatic field and in this way they can maintain a straight line while they migrate.
Finally, the author mentions that humpback whales do a rare behavior called spy-hopping, where the whales floating staright up for minutes of time. This behavior indicates that humpback whales are looking at the stars to help them navigate. The lecturer, on the other hand, poists this point by saying that the spy-hopping behavior is done by other animals such as sharks. Sharks do not travel for long distances. Furthermore, humpback whales spy-hopping during the day time when no stars are visible.
