Rambrandt's work of art (TPO 3)
In the lecture, the professor explains why the portrait of an elderly woman in white bunt is actually painted by Rambrandt, just the opposite of the passage. She proves that all three reasons given in passage are not true.
First, the professor talks about first reason stated in passage which is about inconsistency in woman's cloth. She says in fact the fur color was not a part of actual painting and it was added by someone else about one hundred years after the original painting was created.
Second, the actual painting was a work of art in which the element light and shadow was painted expertly. In current painting, we can see the reflection of light onto face from below though what is under face is dark fur. In fact, the color of the fur is something which again, is added after Rambrandt illustrated the painting and when it is removed, we can see that the reflection effect is painted correctly.
Third, the painting was actually painted on one single panel, as would be expected from Rambrandt, but after it was done someone glued some pieces of wood together in order to make the painting more valuable. It is something that can be seen in other Rambrandt works such as his self portrait with hat.
