TPO-17 - Integrated Writing Task

The reading of the passage and lecture are both discusses a fascinating topic pertaining to glass favored buildings, which can harm several birds sometimes because they try to fly over the glass windows. The author suggests three possible solutions prevent injuries of birds. While lecturer casts serious doubt on the claims made in the article and suggests that all three explanations are not very effective to stop this problem.

First of all, the reading article gives a solution called one-way glass. He claims that by replacing this type of glass with regular glass prevent birds injury. In this type of glass, birds can't see through the window and understand that it is a solid barrier, hence not try to fly over it. This point is challenged by the lecturer who says that there is a problem with this type of glass that the glass reflex like a mirror. Furthermore, he points out that if the birds saw sky in the glass, they definitely try to fly through it. Clearly, a disparity exists between the article and the evidence exhibited by the professor.

Secondly, the author thinks that to paint colorful lines on the glass window is another solution for the problem. He argues that thin strips and design on the glass avoid birds to fly through it. This argument is rebutted by the speaker, she acknowledges that this kind of windows includes large opening as opening holes, so the birds try to fly over it. He elaborates on this by mentioning that if designed windows didn't contain the openings then the whole building can't get the sunlight hence, the rooms are too dark.

Finally, the reading posits that by creating an artificial magnetic field help birds away from the buildings. He believes that birds have the powerful electromagnets which help them to show the right directions. The speaker, on the other hand, mentions that birds only use this power when they try to cover a long distance. He puts forth to the idea that when birds migrate from cold to warm weather they used magnetic signals but in short distances, they only used their eyes.

In summary, while both the reading article and the classroom discussion provide interesting information with regards to prevention of the bird's injury, a significant amount of evidence supports that the solutions providing in the article are not very useful. Therefore, the author fails to justify the claims given in the article.
