TPO 25

In the reading passage, the author claims that the vessel, which was found in Iraq in 1938, cannot be accounted as ancient electric battery by pointing out three reasons of support. However, finding all the ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text, and states some evidence to the contrary.
At first, the author argues that having not attached to any conductor, the vessel were not able to produce electricity. The lecturer brings up the idea that the absence of conductor cannot endorse anything. Indeed, there are some other possibilities since the excavation operation had been done by the local people who certainly were not expert. Therefore, those people could have dug up other things such as metal wires but they either did not recognize them, or overlooked the importance of them and threw them away since they found them uninterested.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that the appearance similarities between the vessel in the Iraq and another cylinder unearthed from the relics of Seleucia have demonstrated their similar function. On the other hand, the professor, disputes this point by clarifying that this resemblance can ratify their original usage but it does not prove its latter purposes nonetheless. Actually, it is feasible that after a while they found out that if it is exposed to some liquids it is capable to produce electricity. Subsequently, they altered its utilization.
Finally, the author asserts that producing the electricity was a futile activity in that era due to absence of any electrical device. The professor, though, dismisses this point by subscribing to the fact that probably, electricity had some other invisible usages owing to its capability to shock people. Consequently, some people might have magical purposes. Also, even in modern medical science, electricity is used for stimulating the muscles and it could be another viable explanation for using the electricity on that period as well.
