The passage talks about the validity of the story that Peary has been in the North Pole. However, the professor holds a different idea and refuting reasons provided in the passage.

First, the author of the reading claims that committee of the National Geographic Society have find evidence of Peary's records and facilities, which prove Peary has been in Pole. While, the professor casts doubt on the reality of the conclusion of committee. She points that the committee had been included of Peary friends who had undertaken Peary financed support hence; their opinion cannot be accurate.

In addition, the passage says that Tom Avery has been a trip like Peary travel to the Pole under the similar condition and he indicates the possibility of Peary's successful travel to Pole. In contrast, professor argues that there are many differences between the two journey like weather condition as well as feeding method. In conclusion, Avery's trip cannot confirm Peary's success certainly.

As a final point, according to the reading, the photographs are taken by Peary prove the location of Peary on the Pole due to estimate of the sun position via shadows in the photographs. Whereas, the professor rebuts that statement by pointing out that after hundred years the pictures cannot be clear and quality of them have decreased during the long time. She states that results, which have gained due to these pictures, would not be sure.
