The article states that glass is so harmful to wild birds, due to the fact that they cannot identify between glass and open air. The reading provides three solutions for the problem. However, the professor refutes each of the solution.

First, the reading posits that replacing the ordinary, clear glass with one-way glass is sound solution. The professor refutes this point by explaining that these glasses reflect like mirrors. According to the professor, the problem is that birds do not understand mirrors. So, using this strategy, birds still will be harmed.

Second, the article claims that another solution is to paint some designs or colorful patterns on regular window glass. However, the professor says that it is not a perfect idea. He assert that as the reading says, it is true that colorful paintings would prevent birds to fly through the glass, but, birds can see the holes, consequently, they fly through them. Meanwhile, architects can make the unpainted areas small, but this method would lead to darkness for people inside.

Third, the reading says that another solution is to use magnetic field to direct birds away from buildings. The professor opposes this point by saying that birds only use this ability when they have a long a trip. He gives an example of a birds' travel from cold places to warmer ones or vice-versa to illustrate the point.
