The reading passage and the lecture both discuss a Europian silver coin found in an native American site and offer opposing views on it. The author of the passage states that this coin is fake and provides three reasons for it. However, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on what the passage proposes and refutes all the reasons to show that this coin is historical evidence.
First of all, the passage states that the coin was discovered far from the settlements in which the Norse was presented in the eastern Canada. Not having been convinced, the speaker asserts that the native American could have traveled that much and the coin might have been brough by them to thatt place. She proceeds to say that native Americans were interested in new objects and therefore, it is possible for them to have Europian coins with them.
Moreover, the author contends that there were not any other coins in that place of discovery. On the contrary, the professor declares that although it is true that the Norse did not create any permanent settlement in the North America, but they would have brough valuable objects with them to the North America. She elaborates that they could have exchange these worthy things with Native American, so there are other valueable things which has been found in the North America, brought there by the Norse.
Finally, there lecture does not approve the third reason stated by the passage which argues that these Europian coins would have been useless in the east Canada. she propounds that Native Americans could have buy these coins to use them in jewelry or earrings. She delineates that also these exchanges were different than what we do nowadays or what they did in Europe, but there was still a way of buying products by this mean.
