TPO-45

In this set of materials, the reading passage discusses that there are some doubts that the fossil structures that have been found in Arizona were related to bees. While in the listening the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and believes that it is quite possible that the fossils were related to ancients bees and the arguments present in the text are not convincing.

First of all, in the text, it is clearly mentioned that there is not any fossils evidence of actual bees date to 200 million years ago. However, the professor claims that if we could not find any bees fossils does not means that bees did not live at this time. Bees' body could be fossilized if it was trap into the sticky material called resin, which produced by some special type of trees. In 200 million years ago these type of trees were not widespread.

In addition, the professor disagrees with this idea that because in 200 million years ago, the flowering plants did not exist so bees could not exist too. She says that it is possible that bees at this time feeding on the non-flowering plants like fern and pantries and during the evolution process they change their feeding habit from non-flowering plants to flowering ones.

Finally, in the text, it is stated that we cannot prove that the fossil structures are related to bees. The professor subscribes that bees produced some waterproof chemicals and scientists find these waterproof chemicals in the fossil structures too.
