In the reading the author claims that several arguments support the idea of migration of the elephant size dinosaurs called edmontosaurs. However, finding all the ideas questionable and implausible, the lecturer totally repudiates the claim and presents some evidence to the contrary.
To begin with, it is stated in the article that it is necessary for the edmontosaurs to migrate owing the fact that they fed exclusively on plants. since there would have been bereft of plants during winter, it appears that they must have left the area at least part of the year. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that during summer this area could have plants growing on owing the fact that it is warmer and sun shines 24 hours a day. so edmonotosaurs could find a plethora of dead plants in winter and eat them.
In addition, the article holds the view that edmontosaurs lived in herd since it facilitated migration for them. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying the fact that living in herds has many other reasons. for example, a lot of animals live in a group to increase protection from predator menace. many species live in herd and don’t migrate. therefore, living in herds is not convincing enough to support the idea of edmontosaurs migration.
The last point on which the author and the lecturer are at odds with one another is that the author believes edmontosaurs were physically capable of migrating long distances. that being said, the lecturer dismisses it by pointing out that premature edmontosaurs were not able to migrate long distances and they could not live on their own. this suggest that edmontosaurs could not migrate long distances.
