Both the reading and the lecturer talk about whether the Sinosauropteryx dinosaur fossil found in volcanic ash including several lines around the skeleton had feathers or not. The reading insists on the fact that it this dinosaur did not have any feathers and provides three main reasons to prove it. However, the lecturer believes that the reading' reasons are not rational and points out three opposing statements.
Firstly, the reading states that these lines are the result of skin decomposition in the volcanic ash after dinosaur’s mortality. On the other hand, the lecturer agrees upon the fact that it is not the result of decomposition and if it is, it should have been in the structure of other fossils buried at the same site. Moreover, the skin of dinosaurs are well-preserved in the volcanic ash and it is less likely for the feathers to be decompose in such circumstance.
Secondly, the author points out that these line represent other part of dinosaur’s body like frills rather than the feathers. Conversely, the lecturer refutes this idea that the frills contain more beta cartoon in which the feathers do not have any of this chemical composition which by the way there has been no signs of this chemical composition found in the fossils site.
Finally, the reading explains that fossil structures contended this line near the backbone and tail. In contrast, the lecturer casts doubt on this fact that many dinosaur had the feathers on their tails in order to attract male dinosaurs which called display function. Furthermore, the colorful shape of this feathers attested their display function.
