Using fuel-cell engines
According to the information presented in the reading, it can be clearly understand that the author thinks that hydrogen-based fuel-cell engines are the best alternative of internal-combustion engines and provides some reasons to support it. However, considering the points stated in the listening, the lecturer is of the opinion that provided reasons in the passage are not valid and she is against the fact that fuel-call engines are more efficient.
Given the facts mentioned in the reading, the author claims that internal-combustion engines use petroleum and it is a finite source of energy; on the contrary, hydrogen is available everywhere such as in the air, in water and so on; thus it is better source of energy. On the other hand, corresponding point made by speaker is telling that hydrogen is not as plentiful as the passage claims since it cannot be used when it is in water or air and the process of making hydrogen is very difficult as well because it needs to be in a liquid form so they can use it.
The passage assert that the byproduct of internal-combustion engines are carbon dioxide which is harmful for environment and the byproduct of hydrogen engines are just water. In contrast the professor clarified that it is true but for producing liquid hydrogen itself- in order to use in engines - coal or oil have been using so these pollutants still are producing and overall the amounts of release of this gasses are unchanged.
Finally the passage indicate that hydrogen engines are more economically efficient since it uses only half of the fuel needed by internal-combustion engines. However, the lecturer points out that it is not true since an expensive metal namely Platinum has been used to make these engines and since now no one has been able to replace it thus it is not cheap and it still costs the same amount of money.
