‘’The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it.’’
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above. Support your point of view with reasons and examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

Giving advice to a person requires some background knowledge about the person and his goals. If this is not the case, then the advice might be erroneous to attain the goals. For this reason, even though some believe that it is not necessary to possess some information about the person and his problem when they advise, this approach will not be helpful for the person who inquires.

For one thing, when people receive recommendation, they might value a piece of advice that goes along with their aim. To illustrate, let’s assume that there is a student who would like to decide on her career, and she goes to her professor’s office get some advice. If the professor does not know anything about his student, then his advice might not be informative for the student. The professor might advise a jejune career for his student. However, if the professor first asks about her ambition, future expectations, and goals in her life, then he might be able to guide her in the way she can achieve her goal. Therefore, knowledge about the person will definitely help matching advice and goals correctly.

Equally important, the guidance should be applicable for the person who gets the advice. Otherwise, inapplicable recommendation will not help the person to attain her goals. Again, a student who has desire to study abroad is a good case in point. If the student goes to her professor and asks for some advice for which university she should apply, the professor should first define the constraints of the student. She might have bad grades to be accepted by Harvard, or she might have good grades but not sufficient money to afford tuition and living expenses there. In any case, if the professor tells her to go to Harvard, it will not be applicable for the student. In brief, the advice should not exceed the limits of the person who needs help.

On the other hand, there might be people who would still consider a given advice as a best advice regardless of its use or application. However, advice will create advantage when it is applied by the person. For this reason, they forget the main point, and they overvalue the importance of a given advice in that case.

To sum up, each advice is not conducive all the time, and the adviser should first discover the targets and constraints of the person to be able to give the correct recommendation. Otherwise, advice might not be viable because of the constraints of a person who gets advice. Furthermore, the adviser might not be able to address the goals with his guidance. In any case, the person who gets the advice will not be satisfied, and he will not apply the given advice.
