Space research is gaining it's relevance because of the recent changes in the earth's environment. Humans are the one's should be blamed for the catastrophes like global warming and acid rain. So it is believed that, it would be difficult to survive on the earth after some decades. The world we know might become inhabitable due to the harms which are caused by the humans.As a result some people think that, the authorities should invest more money for the research on other habitable planets. I agree to this statement to a certain extent.
On one hand, it seems to be a more practical solution for every nations to work together to build a home outside our planet. People can shift to that kind of facility, if something worse happens. Lot of researches are going in this subject. For instance, most researchers are concentrating on one planet for this future endeavor, which is none other than the mars. The earth now we know facing serious threats like polar ice melting, this will eventually lead to rise in ocean water levels and floods. Moreover, our planets natural resources like water and vegetation are depleting faster than anything because of the over exploitation and careless usage. We going to be trapped on the earth without the adequate life supporting mechanism if things goes like this.
On the flip side of the coin, some experts still believe that we can reverse what we had done to our planet. But a serious effort is needed both in monitory and social terms. Not only countries but also every individuals should work toward this goal and also governments should give adequate financial support to programs like afforestation. Furthermore authorities should take a lead role to protect the remaining natural flora and fauna. On top of that nations should spend their money on implementing more sustainable practices for it's citizens.
In conclusion, I think researching on other planets as a possible alternative home is not at all a waste of money considering the current situations. But at the same time, regimes should take as much as effort to correct the threatening factors prevailing on the earth. I don't think it is not a good practice to abandon our planet after exploiting everything.
