Help wanted for SOP and univeristy application papers

Up +1 Down

within the last two weeks i was busy with sending my paper, finding university for PhD as well as writing SOP.I think that i will get reasonable GRE score(I do not have my scores yet). However,I think if i have a good recommendation and SOP,I have chance to be considered as a PhD student.my major is genetics and I want to try applying to neuroscience programs in the US.If i thought last year there is a small chance for acceptance i would send my application.

To be honest,I did not have any confidence but now with the hot findings i reached in my master thesis(not publically published yet) there is some hope even in applying to Princeton.I know surely what i gonna do as research in future and i have my own hypothesis (seems to be correct consistant with recent publications in 2011).I can't pursue my interests here in my homecountry as our lab is not well equipped for research in this field. My question is that whether it's necessary or not to indicate all the aforementioned points in details and with refering to current literature in this field as refrences?

I have written a SOP with this order of contents:(i'll be grateful to know your idea)

-the reason why i became interested in neuroscience

-my findings(briefly)in master

-The importance of my finding and a brief summary of scientific attempts towards the issue with refrences(emphasizing this field needs more research and why i'm interested in )

-my previous experiences, publications, the reason why i do not pursue PhD here

-my wish to have a career in the future as a researcher (emphasizing on the importance of basic research)

-why this university?(very generall,i do not know whether i should state exactly which lab i'm going to work with or not)

-overall,my main characteristics and experessing my enthusiasm(total words about 1100 )

For your question: My question is that whether it's necessary or not to indicate all the aforementioned points in details and with refering to current literature in this field as refrences?  i had  some experiences like you when i was applying PHD. What i did was to put details as much as possible to let professors know me more. However i may focus on some areas accordingly. hope this will help.
