Zoos are actually meant to protect animals. But these days, zoos restrict the movement of animals to a great extent. Animals often become uncomfortable and even become extinct, when they are caged in zoos for an indefinite amount of time. Placing too much restrictions on animals, by constraining them to stay in zoos has lots of disastrous consequences. So I firmly agree with the statement that a 'zoo' has no useful purpose at all.
