the burning mirror

Essay topics:

the burning mirror

The material discusses that the ancient Greeks used a specific weapon called burning mirror to fight aganist the Romans. While the reading looks at the topic from one prespective, the listening challenges certain points outlined in the reading passage.

First, the author claims that the ancient Greeks were not technologically advanced to create this weapon. On the other hand, the professor opposes this and states that the Greeks did not use single sheet od copper to manufacture an individual precise mirror, but they used assemble many small mirrors to from perebolic shap mirror.

Second, the reading posites that this weapon was ineffective becasue it took long time to fire a ship. On the contrary, the listening contradicts this and says that if the ship just made of wood, it could take ten minute to fire it; however, the ship usually made of many pices of wood that sealed together with a particular waterproof material called peatch. The professor adds that this material could catch fire in second, then the fire could spread even the ship was moving.

Third, the author states that the Greeks already had falming arrows, so it was not a creative weapon. Conversely, the lecturer challenges this and states that both Greeks and Romans were familiar with flaming arrows and they could watch it, nevertheless, they could expect that a mirror could be a weapon it was just a mirror. The professor adds that the fire suddenly came from the mirror and surprise the enemies.
