The graph below shows the number of complaints made about noise to Environmental Health authorities in the city of Newtown between 1980 and 1996.
The line graph gives information about the number of reported claims about noise in Newtown over the timescale of 16 years from 1980 to 1996.
The general overview here is that the amount of noise caused by road works had reduced whereas that of other sources had increased. This is especially striking in the surge of complaints regarding domestic households and a marked decrease in that number of road works.
The period 1980-1984 saw the greatest number of claims concerning road works, at well over 600 and its decrease to 400 by the end. The reverse is true for factories: the level of discontent reached the initial number of complaints about road works. This is different for the other two sources of noise - DH and Traffic - which were steady during these four years.
From then on until 1988, fluctuations in the numbers became even more dramatic. The figures for traffic and domestic/household noise had the same tendency of growth: by 1986, they had reduced by 50 and then rebound. Others were following a similar trend.
Subsequently, the gap between the numbers of reports had increased, with the domestic/household doubling the number of claims.
