The bar chart below shows the passenger kilometres traveled by different means of transport in the UK in 1990 and 2000. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart illustrates distance travelled by people using different types of transportation in the UK from 1990 to 2000.

Overall, buses and trains were the most preferred transports. Travelling by air, bus, rail and in total enjoyed upswings, while bicycle and motorbike witnessed opposite patterns.

In 1990, most people in the UK travelled by bus and train with the figure at 42 billion and 40 billion kilometres respectively. Both experienced relative growths and were equally represented at 50 billion in 2000. The total figure occupied the same trend, growing from 100 billion to 110 billion in the meantime.

Opposite patterns are evident distances for bicycles and motorbikes, at only 5 billion passenger kilometres in 1990. Moreover, there was a fall in both transports, which the figure declined to 4 billion in the next decade. Furthermore, a slight rise in the number of people travelled by aviation can be seen with 8 billion kilometres in 2000, compared to its lowest position at 5 billion in 1990.
