Essay topics:

Your local council has decided to close the only park in your town and build a car park in its place. You believe this will have a bad effect on the people who live and work in the town.

Write a letter to the mayor. In your letter

introduce yourself
explain why you think the decision is wrong
say what you think the council should do instead

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Jane Smith; I am a senior manager in Global Industries and a local activist. I have recently discovered your intention of building a car park on the place of the Green Park and would like to express my disagreement on that matter.

I sincerely believe that removing the only park in the area would not benefit to the locals because of two reasons. Firstly, the population of the town consists mostly of the youth, young families and their children who require a place for their outdoor activities. Secondly, that park plays a significant role in the history of Greensboro since it brings its roots from the very beginning of the town.

Therefore, I would recommend you to find an alternative for your decision. For instance, you could upgrade the territory of old garages nearby a road from which lead right to the main street, which is very convenient. Not only would this save the park, but it would enable you to improve the whole infrastructure.

Thank you for the time you put to read my letter, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,
Jane Smith.
