Both the reading and speaking try to discuss about the cause of the Little Ice Age. Although the reading brings three ideas in order to explain the cause of Little Ice Age, the lecturer disagrees with them all and believes that all the ideas mentioned by reading are erroneous and defines three reason to reject them.
At first, the author asserts the theory that the ocean current probabely brought about the Little Ice Age. When the glaciers melted, they push the cold air from ocean to the land and this could affect the tempreture of the Earth. On the contrary, the speaker brings the reason that this idea is highly questionable due to the fact that the Little Ice Age included the other place such as Africa and Newziland and there was not any ocean current owing to melting of glaciers. So, the ocean current in this place was not able to result the Little Ice Age.
Furthermore, the reading argues that when one huge volcanic eroption occured, the vast emount of dark clouds were made and this clouds can plock the sunlight which in turn resulted the temperature decline and the Little Ice Age. Conversely, the professor refutes this claim due to the fact that if the significant volcanic erruption happend and the large clous were formed, there should be some reports about colorful sunset or brown snow. But there were no reports about anormaly in that time. Therefore, the volcanic eruption could not be the cause of this event.
Finally, the passage explains that according to the fact that people cut dowm the forests' trees in order to cultivate the crobs for food, the reduction of human population probabely was the cause of Little Ice Age. On the other hand, the lecturer dismisses this reason due to the concept that there was no enough time for population decline to be the cause of this event. The population was increased rapidly after readuction. Consequently, the readucing of the human population was not the cause of Little Ice Age.
