TPO-43 - Integrated Writing Task Agnostids were a group of marine animals that became extinct about 450 million years ago. Agnostid fossils can be found in rocks in many areas around the world. From the fossil remains, we know that agnostids were primitiv

Both the reading and the lecture discuss how agnostids which were a group of ancient marine animals, have lived. The author of the passage acclaims that they were a kind of primitive arthropods and proposes three different theories about the living of agnostids, however, the professor in the lecture believes that all of them are weak and rejects them one by one.

The first theory that the passage states is the agnostids were free-swimming predators. On the other hand, the professor in the lecture casts doubt on this idea and states that the fossils of agnostids have not any evidence of hunting. Hence, they were not hunters because they were poor in predation tools.

Second, the passage asserts that the agnostids probably have dwelled on the seafloor. However, the professor contradicts this theory and illustrates that seafloor animals cannot move quickly, hence, they occupy a small amount of area on the seafloor. But, the fossils of agnostids have been found in a variety of areas on the seafloor, hence, they should have been able to move quickly to move far distances.

Finally, the third theory that the passage states is that the agnostids were parasites and living on bigger organisms. But the professor challenges this theory and acclaims that agnostids breed a lot of children and had a big population. The professor believes that if the agnostids were parasites, they would have killed a lot of marines, hence, they should not have been parasites.
