The lecture and reading passage both about Robert E.Peary who claim that he was reach the North Pole. But some scientist skeptic about Peary travel on the North Pole. The author supports the Peary's claim and provide three evidence for supporting Peary truth. The lecturer cast doubt of each evidence made in the article. He believe that no solid prove found to Peary reach to the North Pole and author's evidence are unconvincing.
First of all, the author claims that committee check the Peary data. According to the investigation Peary's claim convincing and announce that he had complete the North Pole journey. This is point challenged by the lecturer. He mentions that committee investigation were not objective because scientist was Peary's friend and also he contributed money for Peary trip. Since examined data not properly checked, unreliable investigation and biased result.
Secondly, the author implies that Peary completed journey same speed and days as Tom Avery. The lecturer rebuts this evidence. He explains that Avery took less food as compared to the Peary and weather condition convincing when Avery traveled but unfavorable climate condition on the Peary journey. So, Peary cannot finished his trip.
Lastly, the author emphasizes that photographs of the surf position on North Pole was main evidence that Peary trip on North Pole. The lecturer, in contrast, points out that technique used by scientist to made the photographs. Primitive photographs were fuzzy and blur, even not precisely presented the sun position, therefore provided shadow photographs not trustworthy and realistic.
