UK telephone calls, by category, 1995-2002
The chart gives information about the UK’s total minutes (in billions) phone calls by three different ways in the period of 1995 and 2002.
It is evident that British people spent most of their time on Local calls. Gradual increases could be seen in both National and International and mobile calls. The gap, moreover, among the three categories narrowed over the second half of the period in question.
The amount of time used for Local calls went up to more than 70 to just under 90 billion minutes in 1999, which was a peak for these calls. However, after reaching the peak in the following year, it declined slowly by 2002.
National and International and mobile calls had the same pattern in which they grew steadily over the period. National and International calls increased gradually from just under 40 to 60 billion minutes, then slowing in the last two years. There was a considerable rise in mobile calls from about 13 to 35 billion minutes between 2000 and 2002 where the growth was noticeable in the following year
