Overall, it is crystal clear that rented accommodations saw a consistent decrease, while the figure for owned houses proved to be in reverse and experienced a progressive rise between 1918 and 2011.
In 1918, the percentage for rented houses was nearly three times higher than owned accommodation with approximately 76% and 22% respectively. By 1961, the former had dropped significantly and accounted for slightly below 60%, while the latter had reached slightly above 40%. Both counterparts made a similar proportion in 1971 with 50%.
From 1971 onwards, the figure for owned accommodation has climbed up and reached its peak in 2001 with nearly 68%, before diminishing to 65% in 2011. Rented accommodation, on the other hand, has faced a considerable drop and made its lowest percentage in 2001 with roughly 30%, before reaching 35% at the end of the period. It can be obtained that far higher people could afford to purchase accommodation in the last half of the period.
