The chart below gives information about the age of women in Australia when they gave birth to their first child in 1966 1986 and 2006

The given bar chart compares the proportion of women in five different age brackets who had their first child in Australia in three separate years (1966, 1986 and 2006).
Overall, it can be seen that for all figures the overall trend was upward except for two younger age brackets. In addition, the majority of women had their first child in their 20s in 1966 and 1986, while the 30-34 age group recorded the highest rates in 2006.
Turning to the chart for details, in 1966, about 63% of Australian women gave birth to their first baby, compared to about 35% of those under 19. During the next 40 years, those figures dropped significantly to nearly 28% and 12%. By contrast, the figure for those aged 25-30 increased minimally from about 36% to 38% despite a dramatic growth to 50% in 1986.
Among other groups, those aged 30-34 initially rose dramatically from almost 12% in the first year to a peak of roughly 45% in the final year. Likewise, an over three-fold rise was recorded in that of 34-to-39-year-old women from 8% to about 30%. The figure for those over 40 also increased slightly from just 3% to about 5% despite a small dip in 1986.
