The chart below shows the amount of time that 10 to 15-year-olds spend chatting on the Internet and playing on games consoles on an average school day in the UK.

The bar chart compares how much time per school day British students who are aged from 10 to 15 invest in chatting online and playing game consoles.
Overall, students in both genders spend more time playing games than chatting. It is obvious that the majority of boys prefer game consoles while online chatting is more popular for girls.
In terms of access to the Internet for chatting, just over 60% of the total students who spend time on that, and the respective percentages for girls and boys are nearly 70% and around 55%. Remarkably, approximately 35% of female children prefer chatting from 1 to 4 hours on a school day, while the figure for boys is lower, at about 30%. There are no significant differences in both genders who chat for less than 1 hour, at about 25% each.
Turning to the other activity, nearly 90% of the total boys play on game consoles. This figure is nearly 40% and some 15% higher than those of girls and the total. However, the percentage of male students who play games for less than 1 hour is only 30%, while the figure of nearly 40% is seen in girls. The proportion of female children who play on games consoles between 1 and 3 hours is significantly low, a mere 1%.
