The variation in birth rates in China and the US from 1920 to 2000 is illustrated in the line graph.
In general, even though experiencing a dramatic surge in the middle of the period, the birth rate in both countries underwent a downward trend. However, more children were born in the US than in China at the end of the year.
From 1920 to 1945, the birth rate in China increased by 5% before plummeting steeply by more than 10%. More children were born in the US initially before facing a considerable surge of more than 5%, surpassing the downfall of China’s birth rate.
In the next 30 years, the birth ratio in China witnessed a gradual decrease by nearly quadruple after reaching its peak at 20%. Meanwhile, although experiencing a constant dip after bouncing back to 15%, the birth ratio in the US remained higher than in China throughout the period.
