The graph below shows trends in US meat and poultry consumption.

The line graph illustrates the changes in American's intake of four different types of meat: beef, pork, broilers and turkey per capita between 1955 and 2012.
Overall, it can be seen that beef was the most popular meat out of the four, while broilers witnessed the most significant growth in consumption rate. Additionally, the figure of pork, despite wild fluctuation, returned to its initial point at the end of the time surveyed. The intake of turkey was relatively stable over the 18 years period.
From 1955-1960, there were only records of beef and pork consumption. Beef consumption, despite a slight decrease in 1973, rose steadily and reached its apex at 90 pounds per person in 1976. However, over the next 12 years, the figure of beef fell continuously; and in 2012, the number was less than its starting amount. During the surveyed period, pork’s consumption rate oscillated and followed a similar trend as beef’s.
It is also worth denoting that the increment of broilers’ intake amount was noticeable since its highest point in 2006 triped since its initial point in 1961 (60 pounds per capita). By contrast, the consumption of turkey reached a plateau over 18 years. More specifically, it was not until 1988 that the total consumption of turkey was more than 10 pounds per person.
