The graph shows different sources of air pollutants in the UK from 1990 to 2005

Essay topics:

The graph shows different sources of air pollutants in the UK from 1990 to 2005.

The given line graph illustrates the number of pollutants(in million tonnes) that are discharged from Industry, Transport, and household activities in the UK over a period of 15 years from 1990 to 2005.

Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that over the period as a whole, the total pollution has undergone a dramatic fall. Furthermore, despite being the highest contributor, industrial pollution observed a major plunge over the others over time.

To begin with, the total pollution plummeted from a peak value of 7 million tonnes to only 4 million tonnes in 1999 before reaching a plateau until 2001. After that, the pattern experienced a further decline, with just above 3 million tonnes in 2005.

Turning to the sources, Industry reported nearly 5.7 million tonnes of pollutants as compared to just a fifth of that from the other two resources. However, with the passing years, whilst industry and household saw a substantial dip in 1995 prior to slacking off drastically at 2 and 0.2 million tonnes, by contrast, besides a few fluctuations, the household pollutants leveled off at 1 million tonnes over the given period length.
