The line graph shows the percentage of New Zealand population from 1950 to 2050.
The line graph compares the changes of people in terms of age distribution in New Zealand over a period of 100 years.
It is clear that the percentages of people aged under 14 and 38- to 45-year-old are expected to see a significant increase, meanwhile the opposite is true for over 65 and from 25 to 37. In addition, New Zealand had a considerable larger proportion of elderly populations.
As can be seen from the chart that two elder group’s figures were witnessed a sharp rise, with around 50% of cohort between the age of 38 and 45 and 70% of people aged over 65, by contrast the stabilization of younger group’s percentages from 1950 to 1990.
Looking into the future, a sudden increase in the proportion of people aged under 14 is predicted, with a jump of over 20%. By 2050, it is thought that around 40% of population will be 38 to 45 years old, while the figures of group aged over 65 and 25- to 37-year-old will slightly decrease, at about 57% and 1% respectively.
