The pie chart below show the main reason why agriculture land become less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of world during the 1990.

The pie chart indicates the major contribution divided into four factors namely over-grazing, over-cultivation, deforestation and other whilst the table depicts how much farmland became less productive in North America, Europe and Oceanic over the span of the 1990s.

Overall, over-grazing took the largest share concerning land degradation compared to other contributors. Meanwhile the total degraded land observed with the highest figure was witnessed in Europe.

Raising cattle by letting them graze on land caused the most negative influence with 35% in regard with the total. Over-cultivation took an account for 30 %, which ranked the second largest figure among the four factors and the global degradation caused by deforestation held 28%. The non-specific reason which was categorized as other only stood at 7 %.

The figures of deforestation and over-cultivation seen in Europe were by far the highest among three examined regions with 9.8% and 7.7% respectively. In addition, 23% of damaging factor belonged to Europe, the opposite was true for North America with merely 5%. Although Oceania was in no charge of over-cultivation, this region was responsible for the highest data in over-grazing with 11.3%.
