The table below shows social and economic indicators for four countries in 1994, according to United Nations statistics.
Describe the information shown below in your own words. What implications do the indicators have for the countries?
You should write at least 150 words.
The table illustrates the statistical report of the United Nations regarding social and economical determinants for four different Nations of the world namely Canada, Japan, Peru, and Zaire in 1994.
Overall, all four socio-economic indicators were much higher for the developed nations like Canada and Japan whereas for developing and underdeveloped countries like Peru and Zaire had such indicators much lower. There was a strong correlation of these indicators among each other as one significantly influenced the others in the period given.
Given a close look at the data, the two developed economies (Canada and Japan) showed the highest annual income per person (in $ US 11,100 and 15, 760 respectively). Likewise, they represented similar findings of life expectancy at birth (Japan is ahead of just 2%), and the exact rate of adult literacy of 99%. However, the variation of per day caloric intake per person was around 500 calories for Canada in comparison to Japan.
On the other hand, Zaire and Peru had the lowest per capita income of US $130 and US $160 and this gross earning had a direct impact on all other indicators. Though their daily calorie intake showed a few variations of 200 calories, life expectancy (47% and 51%), and adult literacy rate (34% and 68%) had profoundly compromised.
