Some people think that art is an essential subject for children at school while others think it is a waste of time.

Discuss both views and give your opinion

Some people think that art is an inseparable part of the
education system. However, others think that studying art is time-consuming,
and children should not pay full attention to that subject. While schools are
responsible for providing a wide range of subjects to children to study, we
should not dismiss the role of arts.

The most common reason among people, who argue that studying
art is a waste of time for children is that it does not provide any academic
knowledge and experience. Instead, they should concentrate on academic subjects
such as mathematics or science, which enable them to develop a better
understanding of certain fields and lay foundations for later careers. Also,
art subjects might not guarantee a decent job because most artists today are
struggling from selling their products.

However, apart from the reason expressed above, I believe
that people should not underestimate art values. Most importantly, they benefit
the development of a whole child across social, cognitive, and emotional
domains. For example, if children, besides learning mathematics and science,
spend their time participating in art courses or art exhibitions, their
creativity and imagination will be boosted. Therefore, children would become
more knowledgeable and perform better in class. Besides, participating in art
activities is also an ideal way for children to relax themselves and better
concentrate in class, especially after studying hours.

In conclusion, although some people claim that art is often
pointless, I believe that they have a long-lasting effect on the development
and performance of a child in the future.
