Essay topics:

It will be better to have wide use of driverless car for individuals and society. To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement?

Some are of the opinion that widespread automated vehicles will be more convenient for a person and for the society as a whole. Personally. I disagree with this notion as the technology is new and far from perfection yet. That is why it can bring along serious consequences.

First, let us imagine that driverless cars are affordable and numerous citizens are driving them. Thus, from my perspective the number of car accidents will increase due to imperfection of the equipment. Someone might say that it is not a case because electronics will be sophisticated enough. However, we should not forget that driverless cars are not only about electronics, but also about navigation devices and maps in particular. To illustrate, as a professional cartographer I am sure that there are no perfect electronic maps as they become outdated very quickly.

Secondly, spreading automated cars may lead to cancellation of driving licenses and as a result the number of vehicles on the roads will rapidly increase. Consequently, not speaking about increased traffic jams, quantity of exhaust fumes will arise and atmosphere pollution as well. For example, during the first Covid-19 quarantine authorities of our city had forbidden for cars moving in from outside the city and local traffic was reduced as well. Thus, I could inhale fresh and crisp air and observe a surprisingly blue sky then.

In conclusion, I totally disagree that wide use of driverless cars is worthy as it will result in an increased number of emergency situations on the roads and rising environmental issues in cities.
