Essay topics:

Cuba and its originally Amerindian population came under Spanish control in the 16th century. The colony's struggle for independence started in 1868 and continued during the 19thcentury until the United States intervened in the Spanish American war of 1898. The US then occupied the island until recognizing its independence in 1902, though limited by an amendment, after which the US continued to exercise considerable control over Cuban affairs. Fidel Castro led a rebel army to victory in 1959 against dictator Batista and Castro has remained in power ever since. Relations with the US deteriorated after Castro initiated economic reforms and sought closer ties with the Soviet Union leading to the failed US-sponsored Bay of Pigs invasion and the Cuban missile crisis as well as a strict US trade embargo largely still in place today. Cuba was subsequently involved in revolutionary wars in Africa and Latin America, while it enjoyed close economic ties with the Soviet bloc. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the economy of the country was hit hard in the early 1990s. The continuing United States trade embargo has also had a detrimental effect on the economy since the early 1960s. More recent problems include high oil prices, recessions in key export markets such as sugar and nickel, damage from hurricanes, depressed tourism, and faltering world economic conditions.

Recently, there has been a ton of debate as to condition of relationship between Cuba and America. More specifically, in regards to the passages, the writer puts forth the idea that the overall relationship between USA and Cuba is very bad. However the lecturer is quick to point out that there are some serious flaws in the writer's claims. In facts, the professor believes there are normal business relationship between the USA and Cuba, and addresses, in detail, the troubles with each point made in the reading
text.

First and foremost, the author of the reading states that there are no business relationship between USA and Cuba. Some professional in the same field , however, sands in firm opposition to this claim. In the listening , for example, the professor claims that ther is normal bussiness relationship between USA and Cuba. He goes on to say thatCuba imports 6% goods from UsA by cash on delivery and USA is the 5th import country for the Cuba.

Secondly, one group of scholars, represented by the writer, thinks that USA imposes only business embergo to Cuba. Of course, though not all experts in the same arena believe this is accurate. Again the professor specifically address this point when he claims that USA imposes commercial, economical and financial embargo to
Cuba.

Finally, the author wraps his argument all of the class including accept this kind of relationship between USA and Cuba. But the professor takes this argument by contending that the bussiness oppose this type of
embergo.

In conclution we can say that both the writer and lecturer hold trouble in finding common ground about the relationship between USA and Cuba. It is clear that they will have trouble in finding common ground.
