The lecture and reading passage discussing about saving Torreya taxifoga trees from the extinct. According to the reading passage three possible solutions helps to protect Torreya trees. However, the lecturer contradicts the each solution provides in the reading passage. He states that article presents three solutions getting unsatisfactory results.
To begin with, the lecturer opposes the first solution made in the reading passage that the reestablish Torreya in the same place in Florida. He mentions that plantation of Torreya in a microclimate in Florida is impossible because of coolest and dampest area near to the warmer region. Global warming strongly effects on the microclimate area, so, increase temperature and unable to survive in Torreya plant in the dried region.
Furthermore, the lecturer explains that plantation of Torreya in different place getting the unpredictable result. For an example, Black Locus trees plantation in the north area in which Locus species grow quickly and spread the whole region. In fact, it was killed huge another plant of that area. So, moving plant on another region is a danger for native plants in that areas and getting unpredictable results, all these reasons, the lecture contradicts specific suggestion made in the reading passage that relocating plant by helping of the human get the survive in new place.
Moreover, the article emphasizes that storage of Torreya in the research center. These notions help to easily conduct the study and close monitoring to plants. The lecturer, in contrast, points out that Torreya kept in a research center is not a good idea because of it cannot resistant to the diseases. Torreya needs large and great diversity for increase population but research center in not right space to catch the great diversity and protect from the diseases.
